I read a lot of document regarding of " banshee" and I cant seem to understand what is a banshee or what their purpose, can someone help me clarify what is banshee and what they do?

All I can remember is that its usually a woman in all black and she screams an ear shattering scream. Usually implies death. I haven't thought about banshees in a long time. XD
